  • Martha was born in Cooper County Missouri near Overton.  Her motherand
    father died when she was very young.  She was raised in the home ofher
    grandparents, Jacob and Priscilla Chism.  She migrated with her
    grandparents when they moved from Cooper County to Morgan Countyaround
    1835.  In 1840, she was united in marriage to her second cousin,Nathan
    Breed Chism.  They established themselves in a farming enterprise in
    Morgan County Missouri.  Around 1838, Nathan and Martha moved to Linn
    Creek in Camden County Missouri.  In 1865, during the Civil War,Nathan
    was killed by bushwackers in the front yard of his home.  Martha haddied
    previously in 1863.  We do not know the location of their burialsites.
