Notes
- Priscilla Jane Chism was born while her parents were residing inCooper
County Missouri. Soon after their move to Morgan County, we find her
being united in marriage to John Marshall McClanahan II. This was a
second marriage for John Marshall. The McClanahan Family, who werefrom
South Carolina, were some of the earliest settlers in what is todayMorgan
County Missouri. The parents of John Marshall McClanahan II were
proprietors of the Inn which was a travelling landmark at Versailles
during the early days. In 1849, John decided to explore the goldfields
of California. He was on this journey in 1849 when he encountered a
sickness which led to his death at the Forks of the Platte River nearto
what is today North Platte, Nebraska. Priscilla Jane was afterwards
remarried to a Dr. Livingston. At that time she left Versailles. Wehave
no further information as to where she relocated. Her three childrenby
John were raised by their McClanahan grandparents in Versailles.
