174. William⁷ Lander⁽¹²⁵⁾ was born in Salem, MA January 11, 1775. His body was interred in Cemetary, Old Orange Ctr..

He married Mary (Polly) Marlett. Mary was born April 15, 1783 in Charleston, Montgomery Co, New York. Mary was the daughter of Gideon Marlett and Mary Quackenbush. Mary died November 21, 1840 at age 57.

There is mention of earlier Landers situated in the Massachusetts area, but it is uncertain whether they are directly related to the this William Lander. According to the "Pioneers of Massachusetts", page 279, comes the information that a Thomas Lannder or Lannders, age 22, came on the ship "Abigail" in July, 1635. He settled at Sandwich. He married Jane Kerbie on July 2, 1651, and had three children: John, born 2 January 1653; Martha, born 7 March 1654, and Mary, born 23 January 1656. Thomas Lannder died 11 November 1675. There are numerous mentions of a John Lander, of uncertain connection to our known Lander ancestors. John Lander was granted land by the Selectmen of Salem, Massachusetts on 5 April 1672, and was a witness in the Court of Essex County, Massachusetts in 1674 (from the "Essex Aniquarian" Volume 9, pp. 38-41). A John Lander, along with his wife, were presented for committing fornication before marriage, and they were sentenced to either be whipped or pay a fine (from the Records and Files of the Essex County Quarterly Courts, Volume VI, July 20, 1675). John Lander and wife Sarah Glanfield, daughter of Robert Glanfield, conveyed part of Mr. Glanfield's house to a Samuel Carlton of Salem, Massachusetts on 30 December 1732 (Essex Antiquarian, Volume 10, p. 163). Supposedly, many of the Essex County records were destroyed in a fire, making connection between our William Lander and previous Landers somewhat dubious.

179 v. Deborah Lander was born in Milford, Otsego Co, New York April 11, 1813.

181 viii. Peter Lander was born in Marcellus, Onandaga Co, New York May 3, 1820.

182 ix. Jeremiah Lander was born in Marcellus, Onandaga Co, New York September 3, 1822.

183 x. Susan Lander was born in Marcellus, Onandaga Co, New York April 30, 1825.

184 xi. Jane Lander was born in Marcellus, Onandaga Co, New York August 26, 1827.
