562. John¹¹ Birchard (Thomas¹², William¹³ Byrchard)⁽⁶²⁷⁾ was born in England 1628. John died November 17, 1702 in Lebanon, New London Co, Connecticut, at age 74.⁽⁶²⁸⁾

He married twice. He married Jane Lee.⁽⁶²⁹⁾ Jane⁽⁶³⁰⁾ was the daughter of Thomas Lee. Jane died January 21, 1723/1724 in Lebanon, New London Co, Connecticut, at age unknown. He married Christian Andrews July 22, 1653 in Norwich, New London, CT.⁽⁶³¹⁾ Christian was the daughter of William Andrews and Mary Unknown. Christian died January 21, 1723/1724 at age unknown.⁽⁶³²⁾

John immigrated to 1635. John was a landowner and one of the thirty nine original settlers of Norwich, Connecticut. He was the first County Clerk and Schoolmaster there. He is also said to have owned property in Lebanon, Franklin, and Bean Hill, Connecticut. By the many documents he signed while Clerk, he fixed the present spelling of the family name. (See Burpee's Story of Connecticut). He was a Deputy to the General Court of Connecticut from Norwich in October, 1691. His autograph can be found in Caulkin's History of Norwich. He was one of the four original proprietors the five miles tract purchased from Owaneco the indian in 1692, and moved there about 1698. Can anyone imagine the pain and anguish John and his wife must have endured? Out of thirteen children, six died under the age of five, including the first five children the couple bore.

John Birchard and Christian Andrews had the following children:

564 ii. Katherine Birchard was born in Norwich, New London, CT November 1656. Katherine died 1656 in Norwich, New London, CT, at age unknown.

565 iii. John Birchard was born in Norwich, New London, CT January 1657/1658. John died 1658 in Norwich, New London, CT, at age 1.

566 iv. John Birchard was born in Norwich, New London, CT December 1659. John died 1662 in Norwich, New London, CT, at age 2.

567 v. Sarah Birchard was born in Norwich, New London, CT May 1661. Sarah died 1664 in Norwich, New London, CT, at age 3.

+ 413 vi. Samuel Birchard was born July 16, 1663.

568 vii. James Birchard was born in Norwich, New London, CT July 16, 1665. James died circa 1745 in Norwich W. Farms, now Franklin, CT, at age unknown.⁽⁶³⁴⁾ He married Elizabeth Beckwith. (Additional notes for Elizabeth Beckwith⁽⁶³⁵⁾)

570 ix. Thomas Birchard was born in Norwich, New London, CT January 1669/1670.

572 xi. Joseph Birchard was born in Norwich, New London, CT February 1673/1674.

573 xii. Benjamin Birchard was born in Norwich, New London, CT December 1675. Benjamin died 1675 in Norwich, New London, CT, at age unknown.

574 xiii. Mary Birchard was born in Norwich, New London, CT June 1677.

575 xiv. Danell Birchard was born in Norwich, New London, CT November 1680.
