802. Jonathan¹² Brewster (William¹³, William¹⁴, William¹⁵)⁽¹⁰⁵⁸⁾ birth date unknown. Jonathan died August 7, 1659 in New London, New London Co, Connecticut, at age unknown.⁽¹⁰⁵⁹⁾

He married Lucretia Oldham April 10, 1624 in Plymouth, MA.⁽¹⁰⁶⁰⁾ Lucretia was born in England. Lucretia was the daughter of William Ouldham and Philippa Sowter. Lucretia died March 4, 1678/1679 in Preston, CT, at age unknown.⁽¹⁰⁶¹⁾ She was baptized 14 Jan 1600 in Derby, Derbyshire, England.⁽¹⁰⁶²⁾ Lucretia immigrated to July 1623.

He was baptized August 12, 1593 Scrooby, Nottinghamshire, England. He came to America from England aboard the ship Fortune which arrived 9 November 1621. He was a Deputy to the General Court of Plymouth Colony 1639, 1641, and 1644. Eldest son of the pilgrim William Brewster, he moved from Stonington and became clerk of Winthrop's New London, or "Pequit" plantation. In 1650 he established the first Indian trading post on land that Chief Uncas had given him, across the river from Uncas' Shantok Fort, also known as "Brewster's Neck", located in the town of Preston. (see Burpee, Vol II, p. 607) Calkin's History of Norwich points out, though, that he was a little hasty in setting up business, as he had not procured a license from Connecticut. The General Court, in May 1650, noted:

"Whereas Mr. Jonathan Brewster hath set up a trading-house at Mohigen, this Courte declares that they cannott but judge the thinge very disorderly, nevertheless considering his condition {referring to losses in the Old Colony}, they are content hee should proceed therein for the present, and till they see cause to the contrary." From this point on, Brewster's Neck and Trading Cove became the principal places of traffic with the Mohegan indians. In May, 1657, he was selected as an Assistant for the town of Pequett.

Jonathan Brewster and Lucretia Oldham had the following children:

803 i. Mary¹¹ Brewster⁽¹⁰⁶³⁾ was born in Plymouth, MA April 16, 1627. Mary died after 1694/1695 at age unknown.

804 ii. Ruth Brewster⁽¹⁰⁶⁴⁾ was born in Jones River, Massachusetts October 3, 1631. Ruth died May 1, 1677 in New London, New London Co, Connecticut, at age 45. She married John Pickett March 14, 1651/1652.⁽¹⁰⁶⁵⁾ (Additional notes for John Pickett⁽¹⁰⁶⁶⁾) John died August 16, 1667 at age unknown.

+ 615 iii. Benjamin Brewster was born November 17, 1633.

805 iv. Elizabeth Brewster⁽¹⁰⁶⁷⁾ was born in Duxbury, Plymouth Co, Massachusetts May 1, 1637. Elizabeth died 1708 at age 71. She married Peter Bradley September 7, 1658.⁽¹⁰⁶⁸⁾ (Additional notes for Peter Bradley⁽¹⁰⁶⁹⁾) Peter died April 3, 1662 in Flushing, Long Island, New York, at age unknown.

806 v. Hannah Brewster⁽¹⁰⁷⁰⁾ was born November 3, 1641. She married Samuel Starr December 23, 1664.⁽¹⁰⁷¹⁾ Samuel was born 1640. (Additional notes for Samuel Starr⁽¹⁰⁷²⁾) Samuel died 1688 at age 48.
