New Priest To Read His First Mass
Father Noonan To Officiate At St. Charles Sugar Notch, On Sunday
Rev. John Lawrence Noonan, S.S.J., son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Noonan, 747 Main Street, Sugar Notch, was ordained to the priesthood June 7 at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, D.C. Most Rev. Patrick O'Boyle, archbishop of Washington, D.C., was the ordaining prelate.
Father Noonan was born and raised in Sugar Notch and graduated from St. Charles Grammar School, Sugar Notch, and St. Leo's High School, Ashley. He continued his studies at Epiphany Apostloic College, Newburg, N.Y. After a year of (copy unreadable), he was professed as a Josephite, He completed his philosophical and theological studies at St. Joseph Seminary, Washington, D.C.
Father Noonan will celebrate his first solemn mass in St. Charles Borromeo Church, Sugar Notch, on Sunday at 11 o'clock. He will be assisted by Rev. Joseph Hammond, pastor of St. Charles Church, and archpriest Rev. John P. Lenahan, West Hazleton, deacon; Rev. Phalom M. Lenahan, S.S.J., Baltimore, MD., sub-deacon. Father John P. Lenahan and Father Phalom Lenahan are uncles of Father Noonan.
Rev. Thomas V. Cantwell, S.S.J., Richmond, VA., former professor of philosophy at St. Joseph's Seminary, will preach. Father Paul Maguire, S.S.J., of Connecticut, will be master of ceremonies.
Father Noonan, after spending a short vacation with his parents, will be assigned to the Colored Missions of the South.
