A Tristram Dodge Branch Genealogy
This account focuses on Amos Dodge, a descendant of Tristram Dodge, and his descendants. Amos Dodge left Block Island, Rhode Island, his place of birth, and joined the great westward migration through New York, pausing in Cooperstown, home of James Fenimore Cooper of literary fame at the time, long enough to marry Rachel DeLong. He and his bride proceeded to Portage County, Ohio, where he farmed for more than two decades and raised a family of eight children. Leaving Ohio, he and his entire family moved to Preston County, Virginia, now West Virginia, where he again took up farming and where his last child was born.
Feel free to explore the reports linked to this page. Of the more than 1900 names so far in this genealogy, some may be of interest to you. If so please let me know who you are and how you are related to this family.
This is a work in progress, which is always the nature of a genealogy, so additions and corrections are welcome. Please email me with any information or questions you have.
I have endeavored to respect the privacy of all people who may be living by applying the commonly used criterion age of 100 years. If by chance, a living person who is older than this is listed by name, please advise me and I will make the given name of that person appear as “Living.” Individuals whose full names are not known are listed with either their first name as “Unknown” or their surname as “Unknown,” since incomplete names are not likely to reveal a person’s identity.
The information on these pages has been obtained from official records, family records, published materials, interviews and etc. representing primary, secondary and tertiary sources. In some cases factual information varies between sources. Where this is the case, the differences are noted.
Although I have strived to present an accurate genealogy of this branch of the Dodge family, I urge anyone using information on these pages to independently verify these facts.
Thank you for coming. Come again soon.
