"Enlisted in Air Corps

Donald Putnam, son of Lee Putnam, has successfully passed all his examinations for enlistment in the naval air corps. He will be sent to Mansfield sometime in September for an eight weeks' course in civilian aeronautics, after which he will go to the University of Iowa for a year of training in the naval air coprs. His enlistment is for four years. At present, Mr. Putnam is employed in Shelby."

Don died 7 weeks after a serious heart attack and open heart surgery while wintering in Florida. He had retired from the US Dept of Agriculture as the County Executive Director of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service of Shelby County, Ohio. He was an active Mason and Shriner. He was a former board member for Fairlawn Schools and the Shelby County AAA. He was a member of the Greenview United Church of Christ in Plattsville where his funeral service was held.

413. Norman Caven Worthington

Killed in a car accident while on a family vacation.

Janet Lee Evilsizor

Janet was permanently disabled after the car accident which killed her husband, Norman, in 1963. She remained in a wheel chair but lived independently in St. Paris. Her last few years were spent at Wellington Nursing Home in Urbana. She was a 1952 graduate of Johnson-St Paris HS and regularly attended the annual Graham reunions. Before the car accident she was employed as an aide at Piqua Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of Cecil and Gladys (Runkle) Evilsizor.

Shirley Arlene Ross

Employed part-time at the Fifth Third Bank as a teller. Served as the Financial Secretary and a member of the administrative board of the Fletcher United Methodist Church. Served on the Miami County Board of the Pioneer Electric Cooperative. Suffered from kidney disease later in life requiring dialysis 2-3 times a week.

"Shirley A. Worthington

CONOVER - Shirley A. Worthington, 72, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at 10:55 a.m. in Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. She was born in Miami County on May 17, 1931, the daughter of the late Paul C. and Mary O. (Miller) Ross. She married Ron Worthington on Dec. 3, 1950, and he survives. She is also survived by two children and their spouses: Gary and Jane Worthington of Casstown and Rhonda and Jim Beckman of Sebring, Fla.; three grandchildren: Liiza, Vanessa, and Levi Worthington of Casstown; three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Shirley has two surviving sisters and a brother in law: Clara Belle Nelson of Trussville, Ala., and Patsy and Allan Swank of Troy. Shirley was a 1949 gradutate of Brown Local Schools. She was a member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church where she was a former choir member. She was a member of Cribs to Campus Mothers Club of Fletcher. Shirely was a bank teller for over 30 years working for Fifth Third Bank and the former Miami Citizens Bank. She was a former member of the Pioneer Rural Electric Board. Visitation will be on Sunday, Aug. 24, from 2 until 6 p.m. at the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher. Funeral services will be on Monday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Leland Brehm of the Fletcher United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery."
